Protests in Turkey against Egypt death sentences

Protests were held around Turkey, condemning the decision of a court in Egypt to sentence 528 anti-coup activists to death.

People across Turkey have taken to the streets to protest against the decision of an Egyptian court which sentenced 528 anti-coup activists to death earlier this week.

A number of organizations, including IHH Humanitarian Relief - which gained a global reputation after sending the Mavi Marmara aid flotilla to break the Israeli blockade on Gaza in 2010 - were involved in organizing the demonstrations.

Protesters gathered outside the Egyptian embassy in the capital Ankara shortly after Friday prayers, where speakers compared the crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt to the crackdown on Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh.

Demonstrations were also held in Kahramanmaras, Sanliurfa and Corum. Speakers also brought attention to the occupation of Muslim lands in Palestine, Crimea and Afghanistan, as well as touching on violence targeting Muslims in the Myanmar, East Turkestan (Xinjiang) and the Central African Republic.

They also did not forget to mention human rights violations and war crimes committed by the ruling regimes in Syria and Iraq.  WORLD BULLETIN
