Samaras still hopeful for pro-European government

Antonis Samaras spoke to the parliamentary group of New Democracy saying that he, and the party, are striving to form a government.  He said: "There is still hope for that."  Prior to makeing this statement, he met with leader of Pasok, Evangelos Venizelos, in the attempt to form a coalition government and to avoid going to another round of elections in June, where some polls show Syriza, a coalition of the left political parties with a moderate communist background, leading.
Samaras said" We are entering a new era where those who can overcome the past will have a secured place."
He appeared positive toward the recommendation of the chairman of the Democratic Left, Fotis Kouvelis, in the establishment of a coaltion government.
"The proposal by Fotis Kouvelis touches our proposal," he said, noting three points of the agreement.  Namely, these are the renegotiation of the Memorandum, to ensure the country's European course and the participation of SYRIZA in such a government.
Samaras attacked SYRIZA saying that Alexis Tsipras and his party won second place, but cannot handle their responsibilities pointing that the day after the elections, Tsipras admitted that he did not have a platform and programme.

Specifically, Samaras said that the unfortunate statements of SYRIZA made about deposits in the banks, showed "[they] do not understand how the banking system works" and accused SYRIZA that with their statements, they restored the risk of Greece exiting the euro.
The president noted that New Democracy supported the transitional government to reduce debt and thanks to this move, Greece bought more time.
Samaras accused PASOK was primarily responsible for the country's current situation and stressed that apart from New Democracy, nobody else had a plan for Greece.  The ND leader stressed that the crisis is serious and "while everyone is climbing on the fence, someone has to stay on the path of logic."
